Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first one on the new Twocans. I personally haven't gotten to play it yet because it is no longer free but it look ridiculously fun. Anyways, talk about minecraft here!

Flint & Steel + Forest == Bad juju.

Bahaha... Question.. Is minecraft hard to run on a computer? The only thing keeping me from playing it is that I don't want to buy the game only to find that my computer lags horrendously.

I have an above average laptop and it still lags. I don't know how it works on the average computer.

If you turn down the visibility distance it helps a lot.

I have also no monsters neer my spawn ever because I lit a giant forest around my spawn on fire, its so awesome.

I still don't know how well my computer will run it. How well does your computer run it in the browser version? EX- Launched from firefox?

This is why you should be careful with lava when your roof is made of wood.

That's what I'm building right now.

I tried it last night and I ran it pretty decent. I'll probably get it in a week or two :D

EDIT** Tried it last night in the browser. Does the .exe application run it faster? I haven't been able to try it yet because I'm not premium.

I posted an idea to the Minecraft forum yesterday, and I thought I'd share it with you all.
Sorry if someone has already come up with this idea (attempts to find similar ideas were undermined by the frequency of water elevator discussions). I just discovered an interesting and hopefully novel way to travel both vertically and laterally very quickly. I call it teleboating.

I noticed that one is able to get into a boat even when one is a couple blocks away from it, being instantaneously teleported into the boat. Furthermore, I noticed that when in a boat, right clicking another boat will transport oneself into that boat, again skipping over the distance between. There are two applications of these properties that I find useful:

1. Vertical teleboating
Each boat takes up about a 2 x 2 square of space. If you place boats in 4 x 4 bowl-shaped containers, with each container about 3 m above the one below it, then remove one of the four central blocks, you can right-click the boats from below, ascending to the next level immediately. Because each boat is directly above the next, you can repeatedly the click the same screen region and ascend very quickly. This method of ascent is faster than stairs and more space-efficient than water elevators.

2. Lateral teleboating
This technique is much simpler. By placing boats in a straight line, you can repeatedly right-click the same spot on the screen and progress from boat to boat at very high speeds, far greater than walking speed. I believe that lining very long and frequently traveled hallways for example could save a substantial amount of time at a reasonable cost. Granted, I have not compared the speeds to those of minecart travel.

In particular I find the first application to be very promising. I imagine these techniques would also work with minecarts. So what do you all think? And has this been thought of before?

I finished my mob farm yesterday. Works like a charm. I can just stand at the collection point and go do something else for however long I want, then have a ton of items when I get back.

That's an interesting idea, Hydrogen, though I'm not sure why vertical teleboating would take up less space than a water elevator.

Shouldn't you be careful with lava regardless of what your roof is made out of?

I love minecraft, i've been planning my underwater city for a while now.

I've been watching these videos recently. These two guys are fucking hilarious. They've done a whole heap of minecraft videos. I'm not sure how much is planned, but somebody starts messing with their server a few videos in and it all gets funny. Funnier.

Certainly, however, I learned that wooden roofs are particularly susceptible to fire.

Sorry, I should have said "automatic water elevator". Non-automatic water elevators tend to be intolerably slow or require one to carry a boat around. In other words, the best alternative to this solution that I've found takes up more space.

Yeah, I build my stuff out of cobble mostly. It's impervious to fire.

What servers do you guys multiplayer on?

I can't play multiplayer :(

You know, I remember hearing about Minecraft one day before everyone told me. I thought "hey, this is interesting, get back to work"

I play it with a few friends. Survival mode is a lot more enjoyable when you have a group of people to fend off the legions of mobs. Also, the fact that spiders can now climb walls is really annoying.

Why is it annoying?

It means that my cliff dwellings are no longer impenetrable.

Just put a lip around any walls and they get stuck. They can't climb on ceilings.

It's funny watching spiders climb walls and fall repeatedly.
