Because the old religion threads are all like 7-10 years dead.

So, talk about religion? I’d love to know what religions are like. I myself am atheist, but I’m open minded.

I could talk about LDS stuff if you would like

What is that?

LDS = Latter Day Saint

Would you like me to talk about it?

Sure.

So basically we're like most Christian churches. Believe in God, Christ, Bible, etc. But, we also believe in modern day revelation and The Book of Mormon(Speaking of, you may have heard that name before, but it's not our name). Modern day revelation means in a nutshell that God hasn't abandoned us, and can still give us guidance. As for The Book of Mormon, it's basically the Bible. It agrees with what the Bible says and adds more. If you don't know what the Bible is, it's basically journals of people that lived while Jesus lived, and before and after. Like really old stuff.

As for things that are different, we believe in different stages of Heaven, not Hell. There's only one stage to Hell to us. Only thing you can do to go to Hell is know the fullness of the gospel, believe in it, and then renounce it as bs. As for the stages of Heaven, it depends on what you did in this life. You won't be judged the same as your neighbor. It's based off of 'Did you intentionally do it' and 'Did you make it right'. Like say you bump a vase off your table. It isn't a sin per se, but it's a sin to not try and help clean up the mess.

Now, for the stages to Heaven, it's not all rainbows and fluff. If you get to the very very top level, you get to meet God. If not, then you can only visit those in levels below you. So you can't meet your family at your own will if you make it into a lower level. If you get into the very top stage however, after you meet God, you get to be your own God of your own universe. Which, creates an infinite cycle. So we have no clue if we're the first generation, or if we're the 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000th generation.

This is just a very condensed version of it, so if you have any questions, please ask.

i have a bad impression of christianity because it's often used as a ground for discrimination (specifically toward judaism and lgbt

Being gay in Judaism isn't a barrel of laughs either.

Being gay in most religions isn't fabulous. The Dalai bleedin Lama is a homophobe however peaceful and accepting he seems.

As for LDS and LGBT, it's not like some other religions. It's frowned upon, yes, but to most of us we don't care(in a neither with nor against way).

I heard the reason LDS are so into genealogy is because prospective members had to prove they weren't black, is that true?

No lol. The reason it so we can do ordinances for the dead(NOT HOW IT SOUNDS). Like, baptisims and being sealed in the temple. Like I said, that can get you into a higher tier of Heaven.

As for black/white and the church, you didn't chose your race so why should that ever be against you?

I cannot undoubtedly say that is incorrect Samsung. I have lived with LDS my whole life. They say they don’t care, but how they go about the situation and manipulate the state government to be anti-LGBT... they are very against it. My own grandmother cried and freaked out that my cousin came out as lesbian and in her words she asked, “When am I allowed to grieve?”. As if it was my cousin died to her. I’m not usually a person to talk down about religions, but LDS has severely warped, lied and manipulated anyone who follows it. Many people are actually leaving and many high school classmates that I knew are actually waking up and leaving for more stable and flexible and open religions. Honestly, in my opinion, I would classify LDS as a cult with some of the things they do.

Edit: I can literally find an educational video for kids in the LDS that tells a story that essentials says black people chose to be black. .-.

I wanna see that video.

I apologize for your previous experience with the LDS church. I personally am not against it, neither are any in my ward or stake. It's not what they're supposed to do, after all we are supposed to treat our neighbor as ourselves. I haven't, nor have any LDS members I know tried to force the government against anti-LGBT. Personally I'm all for it.

Granted, like everything, it depends on where you live your experience.

It seems rude to baptise your ancestors into a new religion after they're dead and can't consent.

It can't hurt, can it? And, it doesn't force them up or anything. It just opens another door. They can be totally against the church. They can have all their ordinances done and still refuse. We just want to do what we can while still on Earth. If you were stuck up in Heaven, wouldn't you want someone to help you up?

I wanna see that video.

It shall be done.

You don't have to be apologetic. This isn't a previous experience though. I live in Utah, the capital of Mormonism. I lived my whole life under the thumb of what Mormonism has done to state and its citizens. Mormonism has a huge history of being extremely against something and being disgruntled when a law is passed that affects their beliefs. They put on face writing a letter to the public saying how disappointed they are but they accept the new changes. As if they are some meme car salesman bargaining for you soul. The fact they do so much inappropriate nonconsensual garbage is enough proof to show their intentions.

First, Joseph Smith was a con-artist. Once he became mayor of Nauvoo in Illinois, He ordered the destruction of a printing press that was aware of the Mormon cult like establishment in the area. This press was also backed up by people who left the church because they were essentially being forced into marriages or couldn't leave the church because they simply weren't allowed to. (Sounds strangely like Scientology.)

Next, the man was chased by a mob out of town because of the obviously previous point. He then was arrested to stand trail and was instead shot by an angry mob of 200 people. Mind you, history says he was assassinated as if he was wronged... But this man incited riots (which was what he got charged for first), committed treason (charged by the state of Illinois) and he tried to disguise himself with wet gunpowder to color his face black in Carthage Jail. Yes... I am not lying, this man tried using black face to fool an angry mob...

Last, the implementation of polygamy and how it was practiced was extremely cruel and oppressive. FLDS compounds are a great example of that. Children being married to their uncles as young as 12 years old, women being treated as property as certain wives could only do certain roles within the house/compound.

Anyway, onto more recent things. I will just make a list of things they have interfered with and done over the years.

  • Church holding approx. 40 billion in a stock fund portfolio (Thought they were non-profit?)
  • Baptism of the dead, Actually tried to announce Anne Frank was Mormon.
- Proposition 8, the church actually financed money into promoting this law in California.
  • Governor Herbert of Utah signs initiative naming pornography a "public health emergency"
  • Utah is now signing a bill to make cellphones and tablets sold in the state will automatically block porn.
  • Utah State Legislature is compromised of up to 95% Mormon affiliation. All of which are high ranking members in the church.
  • The Utah state signing by democratic vote to legalize medical marijuana and was vetoed to be replaced by something completely different. With the church intervening and publicly announcing how glad they were to see it struck down.

The list could gone on. Like I said, this isn't a previous experience. Much like Scientology, it is only allowed to exist because it labels itself a religion. I am not saying Mormons are evil, I am just saying that they have to stop pretending that they are one thing when they aren't. Like the car salesman reference earlier, sure a Mormon missionary will be friendly and smile and talk about the good words of God. However, if you brought up the crazy shit like planet Kolob, magic underwear, black people choosing to be black, etc... then they quickly don't want to talk or want to avoid it. Because it's exactly just that, crazy.

Finally, I had a classmate who I knew that sadly killed himself coming back from a mission. I actually talked to him months before he passed. I remember him telling me that he couldn't do it anymore lying all the time. That the church flat out told him to not talk about certain things with people when going door to door. After reflecting he became Atheist and was disowned by his entire family. This isn't just a rarity of the case too. Utah leads in rates of youth suicide between ages 10-17. This is because of the rate of teens who are now coming out as LGBTQ+ and are disowned and ejected from their families. This is the reality of it all unfortunately. I can talk about a lot of good things in different religions, but all my life living with Mormons, I can't find any real good reasons. :/

Okay so... how would you feel if Catholics came and baptized your mother's grave and said the same shit? See this is the blatant crap I am talking about. How can you not see how bad that is?! It isn't the churches place to do that. PERIOD

So if I'm getting this right from the video, you don't get your endless celestial sex unless you wear your magic Mormon underwear.

You would be exactly correct sir.

Funny but real video on Mormon Underwear:

That was a very... interesting cartoon.

I'm sorry, did you say "compound"?

Holy hell it's Bob goddamn Larson. Don't listen to a word he says either, do watch his exorcisms though they're a treat.

That I did. I will summon a link for you. Zap

Edit: Now that I sit hear, I want to clarify that I didn't want to rip a hole in the universe on Mormonism. I just felt like certain things weren't being said and I don't mean any ill will towards anyone. Truly.
