ForumSite Information ► How Many People On TCAS?
The ability to view what people are doing and how many people are online at any given time has been removed recently, but the users registered and messages sent statistics still remain. Try copying and pasting your time in CET and date to see how this number changes!

61501 users registered, 11526452 messages sent

62782 users registered, 11526452 messages sent

users increased, but messages stayed the same

messages stayed the same

I don't believe that for a minute. Sounds like a bug.

The messages number still hasn't changed even though I've received multiple messages in the last day. Definitely a bug.

If you look at Titanlord237's second post, dating from last year, it's been like that for a long time.

Time for Blake to pull a McDonald's and change it to "millions and millions of messages sent".

can someone help me find that one thread where you're ** ***** **** ***'** ******** ** **?

The users change, the messages don't. I wonder why?

its not like it hit a limit where 64 or 32 digits of binary cant contain the number. I looked it up.

Idk weird

Eh, it probably could've. Blake said each person gets an individual instance of the message, so the event of sending one message to another person actually creates two messages in the database. Sending one message to two people creates three instances of the message. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the messages are individually indexed by an ID within the database, meaning there's a set limit of message entities than can be created.

My guess is that the counter counts individual "message sent" events, which are separate from "message entry created" instances. It's theoretically possible that we hit the limit of ID's in the database (a hard overflow value), but because the amount of messages created varies with each event (it could be two, it could be three, it could be four, etc.), it won't appear to be an overflow or maximum binary value.

TL;DR : The amount of "messages sent" events won't directly equal the amount of "message objects" in the DB, and so we could've hit the cap of objects some time ago, with the amount messages sent being a different number than the number of objects created, so it doesn't look like a standard overflow.

TL;DR Redux : Some statistics don't exactly equal memory used on TCaS.

The code could also just be broken.

I'm really, really, tired right now, though. So don't quote me on that.

The tally isn't being updated anywhere. I must have accidentally removed it in a refactor at some point.

Hmmmm

64246 users registered, 11526452 messages sent

2021

oh cool, there's a palindrome of users registered

I liked that feature. Now, I dont know if this place is a ghost town or just seeems like one. Would it be possible to bring it back?

The ability to view what people are doing

Specify.

an old stat page where it would track the number of users doing whatever on the site from sitting on the home page, to asking or answering questions, or being on the forums. it tracked the number of people doing what.

I made a feature request for it here

Unlike the other one, this one actually is hard since leaving a tab open with the QA would make it look like they're using the QA each time it syncs. All features in the app are sync based and so there's no longer a notion of "what someone is doing right now" at least in the data I currently have to work with.
